In the last couple of months ive taken you on my journey through the wonderful world of the lost art of letter writing. I shared my love for mail, but ive never told you how, when and why I fell in love with this beautiful lost art. I thought, now is the time to share my story.
It all started in the beginning of 2009 when a friend of mine told me about PostCrossing (see my blog from 9 February 2014 if you want to know more about PostCrossing). After sending and receiving cards from strangers, i got a card from a girl who was looking for penpals. I liked the whole idea of writing a letter and stay in touch and get to know each other. So i sent her a message and we started writing each other letters. And then i never heard from her again. Thanks to the same friend who told me about PostCrossing, I found some nice websites where you can find penpals. And one thing let to an other and before i knew it, i had penpals all over the world! Over the years I’ve lost some penpals for different resaons, but I also found some wonderful new friends. I’m still in touch with one of my very first penpals.
But this answers only the how and when question and not the why question. So let me tell you why I fell in love with the lost art of writing letters. I like to meet new people, see and learn more about the world and other cultures. And what beter way to do this, is writing with people all over the world! Also I liked the whole idea of sitting down with pen and paper and write by hand instead of typing. And besides, who doesn’t love to find a lovely letter of a nice postcard between the bills?!
